Hi! I'm Jenny, the maker and owner here at Ceniza Soap Co!
This plant is the inspiration behind Ceniza Soap Co. This is the Texas Sage plant, or Ceniza, and it is also the "State Native Shrub of Texas" — a resilient, native beauty that thrives in the Texas heat, much like the story behind this brand.
My quest for a healthier life began when my dad was diagnosed with ALS in March 2020. When he passed away in November of that same year, I vowed I would do what I could to keep his memory alive. He was a nature lover, and raised me to be one too. It was heartbreaking that he couldn't pass it on to my son, but now that's my job. He started an LLC before he got sick called "Ceniza Geologic", but dissolved it when he received his diagnosis. This is where I got the idea for my business name.
The journey into making soap began when I couldn't find a shampoo bar that I liked. I wondered, "how difficult could it really be?" and began watching videos. From there I learned to make soap of every kind! I even make lotions, lip balms and salves, but I don't list these on my store because I live in Hades...I mean Texas, and they would likely melt before they even got out of my city. The experience of his disease and the faint possibility that I could also end up with it caused my hyperawareness for chemicals and synthetic ingredients. As I began looking into how soap is made, it became evident that fake ingredients are not at all necessary, and easily avoidable.
I have been a gardener for many years, and grow many herbs and flowers that I infuse into oils, that go into my soap. Being able to tie these two hobbies together has been such a joy for me. I look forward to getting up, making coffee and going outside to pick flowers and herbs. Being surrounded by the bees and butterflies brings such a wonderful feeling of belonging with nature.
